Rebel Wilson Opens Up On Embracing Changes In Body Shape

She’s one of Hollywood’s greatest comedic talents, with a mega-watt smile that lingers in your mind long after it’s left the screen. Since bursting onto the screens in Pitch Perfect, Rebel Wilson has come to be regarded as one of our greatest Aussie exports. Many of her on-screen characters have prided themselves on blunt delivery and a no-holds-barred approach to the truth, and when it comes to Rebel’s recent weight loss journey, she’s only ever been open with her followers.

Though Rebel’s weight has come to be the subject of discussion across numerous tabloid magazines, the focus on her outward appearance serves only to diminish the real catalyst behind her year of health and fitness, which saw Rebel embrace her mental and emotional health for greater all-round wellbeing. It’s hardly surprising then, that in prioritising her health with consistent, lasting changes, the Rebel we see now is one that is radiant with positivity and a strong understanding of her own self-worth.

Since losing the weight though, Rebel has had to endure unrelenting conversations around it, including “push back” from those in her own management team when she first started on her weight loss journey. She previously told BBC, “I got a lot of pushback from my own team – actually – here in Hollywood, when I said, “I’m gonna do this year of health, I really feel like I’m gonna physically transform and change my life.’ And they were like, ‘Why? Why would you wanna do that?’ Because I was earning millions of dollars being he funny fat girl and being that person.”

As Rebel revealed to the publication, despite her outward projection of confidence at awards shows and on the red carpet, “I knew deep down inside that some of the emotional eating behaviours I was doing were not healthy.”

Now, Rebel is opening up with her own struggle with changing body shape and why it’s so important for people to not judge their worth solely on their weight or appearance. The fact is, it’s normal for the human body to fluctuate daily thanks to water retention, food intake and normal bodily functions. All of this is simply part of having a healthy lifestyle.

Sharing an image of herself in a swimsuit from an all-inclusive holiday resort, Rebel assured her followers that they are “more than their weight”, writing that it’s important never to feel guilty about weight gain as it “doesn’t define” them.

“I just noticed I put on 3 kg’s on my holiday. I’m at an amazing all-inclusive resort…I’ve lost all self-control…But you know what? I can get up tomorrow and go to the gym, and hydrate and eat healthy and love myself.”

“It doesn’t help to be hard on yourself but I know what it’s like to feel guilty and not great after eating too much. But if you’re like me just know YOU are more than just your weight, your weight doesn’t define you, just try your best to be healthy and don’t be so hard on yourself. Be the best version of you,” added Rebel.

Fans were quick to show their appreciation for such a powerful reminder, with one writing: “I needed this, thank you so much, you look stunning.” Another wrote, “You shouldn’t have ANY constraints while on holiday ever. You look amazing Rebel!” A third wrote, “Thank you for sharing all of you, I wish I had a role model like you when I was a kid.”
